Weaving Delays

Okay, I haven’t updated in a while because I’ve actually been weaving more. As opposed to thinking about weaving or trying to figure out how to weave something. It feels good to be friends with the loom room again.

I am getting close to being done with the weaving. Please note I didn’t say project, or even on-loom work. I still have a long way to go, but it’s coming along. I did do a double-sided clasped weft to construct the dam itself, and then I did bring the luxurious bamboo yarn up as a waterfall/climb. Then I started the top-water, but after about 2 inches, I decided I didn’t like it, and I unwove back down to the dam. I needed to put a separation in between the dam and the top/backwater. So I added about a half-inch of black on black.

The top/backwater is coming along beautifully! I switched the glorious bamboo into the main weft for both blocks. And I’m using multiple picks of the 8/2 white cotton as the outline weft. It looks better than I hoped: sparkly water, reflecting the sunlight on the deep, still water. The darkness below the dam with the more turbulent outline weft conveys the shallow, rocky stream, but the backwater is bright and sunny.

Now I’m pondering on how to finish. Do I just end with the water, or do I want to bring the shoreline back in? That would be clasped weft on one side, and it would provide a little more of the wandering river feeling. And I have enough warp to keep going for a bit. (How much wall space do I want use up?) Hmm – I sorta want to give it a riverbank, but I don’t think I can let it go much bigger for wall space.

But we are looking at houses….
