The loom, reeds, spinning wheel, carding machine, and other equipment will be rented to members in good standing in the Guild. Rentals are for one month (or as indicated) and may be renewed. The rental fee is due at the beginning of the rental and renewal period. Renters are responsible for picking up and returning all equipment at the pre-arranged time and place. Equipment use is free for any Guild study group.
As you know, the Guild maintains an array of weaving and
spinning equipment that can be rented by
our members. A list appears on
pages 7 and 8 of the WGK 2008-2009 Yearbook. At the top of the list
are three 20-25” floor looms—two
8-shaft and one 4-shaft—as well as an 8-shaft table loom. At $15 a
month, these looms are a bargain
for members who need a transportable loom to take to a weekend
workshop or to do some sampling
short-term.
What you may not know is that the Guild also tries to help
members with slightly longer-term loom
needs. The Guild owns one loom
donated by the late Doris Harvey with the stipulation that it is loaned
without charge. It is reserved for
members with longer-term needs. New weavers, for example, may
not yet have found a loom of their
own or don’t want to wait loomless for months until a
new loom can
be found and delivered.
typically a waiting list for its
use.
The WGK board would like to shorten or eliminate the waiting
list for loaner looms. To that end, it
approved at the December meeting a
change to the rental fee schedule to make it easier to rent looms
longer-term. One-month rental fees
for the four looms will remain $15; however, members can now
rent one of the Guild’s looms for a
3-month cost of only $35.
Contact Nancy Frost to rent any of the Guild’s equipment,
and don’t forget that looms can be
reserved in advance if, for
example, you have a workshop in your future.
